SOMEKONG is a duo-band from Colombia but the name, music  and concepts were born in Madrid in 2001. The members of SOMEKONG have always wanted to work together in Colombia, but they played in different bands, but a mutual friend in Madrid introduced Peter Salmang and Xavier Benitez and SOMEKONG has been making great indie music ever since.  Peter Salmang and Xavier Benitez came to be know as SOMEKONG through their friendship with the lads from Ladytron and the Velocifero.  SOMEKONG is influenced by Kraftwerk, Underworld, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Autechre, The Orb, Boards of Canada, My Bloody Valentine, LFO, Erol Alkan, Dj Shadow, and many more.

GreenlandLive.net would describe SOMEKONG work as brilliant mix of IDM, Psychedelic, and Shoegaze.  Peter and Xavier have been producing a piece of work each year since 2001, their collection of unpublished LPs, Mini Albums, Eps and Singles they want to put with or without a record label behind them!  SOMEKONG music is driven by spontaneous writing and social causes, their message to the world through their music is “Make music, not war & make music, love music.”

Their latest album “Breaching the Intercontinental Gap” is the title of what’s going on in many Colombian prisons and also a metaphor of what SOMEKONG has lived through in past two years – writing from long distance with a feeling of not meeting again…like in prison.   Peter and Xavier both do it all, they are different people, but sometime one is more on top of melodies and the other one does rhythms, then sometimes they both do rhythms or both do melodies or harmonies. “I can say Xavier is noisier than me, but that’s not true at all…he’s just louder…”  SOMEKONG most defining moment as a band thus far is NOW!
